The Ultimate Guide For Beginner:How To Choose A Niche For Affiliate Program
I'm Ying here and glad you are here today.Enjoy your
reading. Before we start we go through what is affiliate site!
What Are Affiliate Sites?
Before worrying about choosing a profitable niche, you should understand how affiliate sites make money. Affiliate sites focus on marketing products and services sold by others to earn commissions.
An affiliate agreement is when a company or an individual agrees to pay you for successful referrals. For example, Amazon has a massive affiliates program where they pay you a percentage of the sales you generate using their affiliate links. Affiliate marketing is everywhere these days. This photo I screenshot from amazon website as a reference for you. For more, you can visit via this link.Click here
Getting people to trust your recommendations boils down to two factors: trust and authority. The former is earned by recommending only products and services you know are good. The latter relies on you building up a library of content broad enough to make you an authority within a given field. This is called your niche.
Without wasting time, I'm going to share tips on how to select an affiliate program that increases your passive income.
STEP 1
Find what you love in life, then find a way to make money at
it
You’re most likely to enjoy building an affiliate site in a niche you already enjoy, which makes your hobbies a good place to start.
The great thing about using a hobby for your niche is your existing familiarity with the topic. This means you’ll spend less time doing research, which makes the writing process less stressful. Trust me, if you pick a niche that you don’t enjoy on some level, the work will be a chore. I learned that lesson when I tried to write dozens of articles about shoes. Never again.
If choosing a hobby sounds like the right approach for you, let’s go over a few simple steps to get you started:
Make a list of your hobbies. Think long and hard to answer this question: Which would you most enjoy writing about?
Next up, look for affiliate programs for your chosen hobbies. Which has the most earning potential?
Once you have a final list of hobbies with potential affiliate programs, do market research to see whether there is enough interest to warrant the effort.
Any niche you choose should have a decent built-in audience. One good way to find out if there is a potential audience is by seeking out other big sites in your niche. If there’s competition, the topic is probably worth your time.
STEP 2
Use Google Adwords Keyword Planner (Currently require biling
information but still can use for free)/ Keyword research tools
I started out with checking the potential of affiliate offers in affiliate networks. I checked search volumes and competition using Google Adwords Keyword Planner and Google search results. If there wasn't a lot of competition, I would do it on my website.
After a while I noticed that it was hard to maintain those sites since I didn't really have a specific interest in the fashion market. What I learned is: it's very important to do something you like because that will keep you motivated to grow your sites and consequently your earnings.
Use the list you had create on step 1 to start by checking search volumes for your keywords in Google Adwords Keyword Planner. (I will update detail in coming article and will leave a link below this article.)
Furthermore, you have to know if there are products and
people willing to buy for your niche. You can see that by checking out if there
are ads in Google. You can also join a few affiliate networks to see if there
are any offers related to your niche.
STEP 3
Ask yourself what unique value you will bring to the client.
This step is what most people neglect. The advice I wish I'd
been given when I started out in affiliate marketing is this:
When you're thinking of entering a new niche, ask yourself what unique value you will bring to the table.
What reason will customers have to visit your site? What information or resource will you provide that they can't get anywhere else?
Some of my most spectacular failures as an affiliate are directly related to not having a solid answer to that unique value proposition question. Put yourself in your prospective visitor’s shoes – what value will they get by interacting with your site?
If it's just some half-baked blog post or made-up product
review, that's probably not going to cut it. Instead it takes some real thought
(and likely some real time and effort) to come up with an affiliate business
model worth doing business with. There are some hugely successful affiliates out
there dominating their niches because they went after them with a unique angle.
STEP 4
Build credibility and help your potential customers solve
their problems
Do remember that we are talking about an "affiliate niche" (a smaller part of a larger mainstream market). When finding your niche, go with what you are passionate about. There are most likely several affiliate products that you will be able to promote to support your passion. Choosing the right one can be overwhelming, but if you are passionate about something and have the knowledge (some experience would be great), then it is easier to work on with the products surrounding your niche.
If you don't have the knowledge, do find the time to learn more about the niche you choose. Potential customers today seek information before making a purchase. If you can provide value, build credibility and help them solve their problems, I say you are on the right path.
Don't give up on a topic just because you're not knowledgeable about it. You don’t need a PHD to create a website about most subjects. If you can find a niche where you are really passionate about, I am almost sure that you'll soon become a trusted expert
What magazines do you subscribe to?
What about your job? Present and past?
Are you a member of a club? (Motorcycle, book club, etc.)
What were your favorite subjects in school?
Do you have any hobbies or love any particular sports? (like stamp collection, coins, music, etc?)
As you can see, just by looking at your day to day activities, past experiences, etc., you can most likely identify a niche that you like and can work with. Good luck and to your success!
STEP 5
Look at top 5 and think if you can do better - then you're
on to something
The biggest piece of advice I wish I had when starting out as an affiliate would be to pay less attention to keyword search volumes and place more emphasis on the potential profitability of a niche.
I made the mistake early on in my online career of trying to rank a website for the keyword "How To Make French Toast", which at the time received over 74k searches per month according to the Google Keyword Tool. Once I hit the top 3, I thought I had made it and the money would come rolling in.
I quickly realized that there was literally no money to be made in this niche. No one wants to buy Google Ads for people making French Toast, something I would have found out much sooner if I had researched. Which brings me on to my next point.
By putting in more time and effort upfront, you increase your chances of finding a profitable niche. I don't 100% buy into the "choose something you are passionate about" mantra, sure it may help you if you have issues with focus, however if you are serious about affiliate marketing then you need to treat it like a real business and be prepared to put in the time and effort.
Of course, another element to consider when choosing an affiliate niche and that is existing competition. Forget all these fancy calculations, the number of competing sites and so on, your REAL competition is the top 10 sites in Google, scratch that, it's the top 5 as we are ambitious right?
If you look at the top 5 and think you can do better, then you are on to something. There are tools to help with this process and my tool of choice is Long Tail Pro, which provides both keyword search volumes, average keyword competitiveness and rank tracking all in one.
My final piece of advice would be, before you dive into a
niche, think about how you will monetise once the site is complete. People
often do this after the fact and realize they have wasted a lot of time and
effort.
In summaries, affiliate programs select what you love at the
same time as they can monetize. Have a nice day, and if you have any questions
feel free to leave a comment or send me an email.
Note: I will update a list of Affiliate programs that could
be monetized
